Paper Dolls and Betsy McCall

Hello to all my Delightful friends!

Okay, I'm going to date myself a little bit here but I remember when I was a little girl, I couldn't wait to see the McCall's Magazine because of the paper doll and her very stylish clothes. Betsy McCall was her name, do any of you remember that? Of course after thinking about it for a little bit I got curious and thought I'd do a little research. Here is what I found, Betsy was introduced in the May issue of McCall's in 1951. (Here's a site I found) Now that was just a few years before I came on the scene but Miss Betsy was around until the 1990's so at least some of you reading this, remember her! To be honest I can't remember if my mom got the subscription to McCall's or my grandmother did! I just remember cutting out the clothes and playing paper dolls! And loving it! So, I share this because last night as I was making this card, that's exactly how I felt! Just like I was playing paper dolls! Ah the good old days....

This card is inspired by two challenges at Christian Paper Crafts. Our fabulous Jen chose fun bright colors for our Color Monday Challenge (Think Bold & Bright like a beach ball or a pail & shovel for playing in the sand. Tan, white, red and an additional one or two bold brights to accent your creation). Our creative Gloria provided the sketch (CPC-ST58) for our weekly challenge (Sketch Tuesday) and Jennipher shared a scrapbook layout and a card for some wonderful inspiration so be sure and check it out!!

I thought the pattern paper had the colors of a beach ball so I thought it was perfect!

Paper pieced the bodice of her dress and added real thread to the spool. I was really getting into the paper doll thing!

This is the inside of the card, I used the scraps.

Here are the Copic markers I used on this project.

Thanks for visiting and walking down Memory Lane with me!!

  2. Nice work Aunt Nan. That card is super cute - that might be my favorite so far. I can't imagine how much time you put into each one. They need to be framed or something.
